Artist Spotlight: Celina - Won't Break Me (Explicit)

This artist spotlight is special. This is about one of those cyberpunk tracks where the creator went out of his/her way and tried something unusual - and it is definitely something worth of checking out.

Celina featured on the blog several times with very energetic, impactful albums and tracks bordering on darkwave and this time she packs quite a punch with her latest single: Won't Break Me.

First of all, a big fat warning: listener discretion is advised! The track contains explicit lyrics and may be upsetting for some. Or not. Now with that’s out of the way let’s dive in….

It starts filled with distorted effects and a massive bassline. Maybe less wild than her other tracks even if the main theme is still very powerful and carefully crafted to make the most impact.

Celina already makes an entrance right at the beginning. That’s actually her voice we hear during the track. Also, she is not singing but rapping. I told you it is special.
Before the real action begins, that amount of lyrics would usually be enough to make a statement but it’s just the beginning: she spits some really serious lyrics on top of a tamed version of her music. It’s not peaceful by any means but definitely is there just for foreshadowing.

After the bridge the theme hits with full force and the second verse doesn’t feature much lyrics but it’s back to her usual energy level, making just a few statements, like "hard work always wins".

This track is less intense than her earlier ones but what it lacks of energy it definitely makes up in lyrics. Celina delivers a solid rap performance although obviously this is not her main forte which definitely takes courage to attempt.

All in all it is definitely a must hear: not many synthwave tracks are out there with rap lyrics which still can be called as such. This one absolutely qualifies.

Oh and she has a lyrics video too! Both are highly recommended!
